Introduction

Hooked-end steel fibers are widely trusted in structural concrete for their ability to improve flexural toughness, crack resistance, and load transfer. PIONEER® PNE® ES-6660 exemplifies this category by combining high tensile strength with a proven end-hook geometry, tailored for demanding industrial and precast environments.

Hooked-End Steel Fiber Introduction

PNE® ES-6660 is a hooked-end steel fiber manufactured from premium high-strength steel. With lengths ranging from 50–60 mm and a diameter of 0.9 mm, it offers a balanced aspect ratio that ensures maximum mechanical interlock within the cement matrix. It is designed to perform in both shotcrete and cast-in-place applications, supporting large-area slabs, tunnels, and panels.

Structural Benefits and Crack Control

The distinctive hook at each end of the fiber serves as an anchoring mechanism, enhancing fiber pull-out resistance. This contributes to superior control of plastic and drying shrinkage cracks, while also improving ductility and residual strength. PNE® ES-6660 is especially effective in impact and fatigue-resistance applications, where repeated loads or dynamic stresses are a concern.

Applications in High-Performance Concrete

PNE® ES-6660 is a preferred fiber in:

  • Industrial flooring with forklift and vehicular traffic

  • Tunnel linings and underground shotcrete systems

  • Composite slabs with steel decking

  • Precast concrete segments and large panels

It is compatible with fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) and ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC), enabling reduced rebar use and faster construction timelines.

Physical Properties and Mix Design

  • Material: Cold-drawn high-strength steel

  • Length: 50 mm / 60 mm

  • Diameter: 0.9 mm

  • Aspect Ratio: ~60–70

  • Tensile Strength: 1000–1360 MPa

  • Standard Dosage: 15–45 kg/m³

These fibers disperse well in mixers without tangling or clumping, particularly when added using proper sequencing.

International Standards and Certification

PNE® ES-6660 complies with ASTM A820 Type II and ASTM C1116 Type I standards for chopped fibers in concrete. It is also tested and certified for use in both public and private infrastructure projects worldwide. As a product of PIONEER®’s 22-year legacy in fiber reinforcement, it offers consistent quality and field-tested reliability.
