Micro Synthetic Fiber for Concrete Reinforcement

Superior Concrete Fibers for Fiber Reinforced Concrete

PIONEER® Micro Synthetic Fiber

Micro Synthetic Fibers are high-performance polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET) fibers designed to reduce plastic shrinkage cracking, enhance durability, and improve early-age performance in concrete and mortar.

They serve as secondary reinforcement, distributing stresses more evenly and minimizing crack formation during the critical curing phase.

PIONEER® offers a full range of micro fibers, including monofilament, fibrillated, ultra-fine, self-dispersing, hybrid, and polyester types—engineered for professional concrete performance.

PIONEER® Micro Synthetic Fiber Solutions

PIONEER® offers six types of micro fibers designed for different performance and application requirements.

HPM® PET Polyester Fiber for high-strength concrete applications as a durable fiber additive to improve crack resistance and performance

PET micro fibers with higher heat resistance

Ideal for architectural concrete & fire-exposed structures

Micro synthetic fibers help control early cracking.
But is that enough for long-term durability?

What Are Micro Synthetic Fibers?

Micro synthetic fibers are thin (10–300 μm), short (6–19 mm) polymer fibers mixed into concrete to provide multidirectional reinforcement.
Unlike steel mesh or macro fibers, micro fibers primarily target early-age plastic shrinkage cracks, improve cohesiveness, and enhance resistance to impact and abrasion.

Key Functions:

  1. Reduce plastic shrinkage cracks

  2. Improve cohesion and reduce bleeding

  3. Enhance early-age tensile strength

  4. Increase durability and surface toughness

  5. Improve concrete homogeneity and finish quality

Standards & Compliance:

  1. ASTM C1116 – Type III Synthetic Fibers

  2. EN 14889-2 – Class I Micro Fibers

Benefits of Micro Synthetic Fibers in Concrete

Crack Control Performance :

Fibers chemically inert and uniformly distributed, controlling:

  • Plastic shrinkage cracks

  • Temperature & drying shrinkage

  • Surface microcracks

 Enhanced Durability :

  • Better resistance to impact, abrasion, and chipping

  • Reduced permeability and improved freeze–thaw durability

Improved Workability & Finish :

  • Smoother surface finish

  • Reduced segregation and bleeding

Not all microfibers are created equal.
Higher performance is possible—without changing your mix design.

Where to Use Micro Synthetic Fibers

Micro fibers are suitable for nearly all concrete systems, including:

FAQ

  • Micro synthetic fibers are primarily used to control plastic shrinkage cracking, reduce settlement cracking, and enhance early-age durability in concrete. They help improve surface quality, reduce permeability, and provide better resistance to impact and abrasion.

  • Micro synthetic fibers are very fine (typically 6–40 μm) and designed for early-age crack control, while macro fibers are longer and thicker, intended to provide structural post-crack reinforcement, often replacing steel mesh or steel fibers.

  • High-quality monofilament fibers (such as HPM® PP microfibers) do not cause surface fuzzing when correct dosage and finishing methods are used. Fibrillated fibers may slightly increase surface texture but typically disappear during troweling or finishing.

  • Yes. They can be used in ready-mix concrete, precast, shotcrete, mortar, overlays, repair materials, ultra-thin toppings, and even decorative concrete.

    • Monofilament fibers → Best for finishing quality and plastic shrinkage control

    • Fibrillated fibers → Better bonding and early-age toughness

    • Blended types → Balance of performance and cost
