Blended Monofilament Macro Synthetic Fiber for Concrete | PIONEER®

Reliable crack control and toughness enhancement for fiber-reinforced concrete

Upgrade your concrete with PIONEER® HTM® Mono Blend — a blended monofilament macro synthetic fiber system that combines macro and micro polypropylene fibers to deliver superior crack control, improved post-crack toughness and a smooth finish for slabs, shotcrete, precast and industrial floors.

What Is HTM® Mono Blend ?

PIONEER® HTM® Mono Blend pairs our monofilament macro fibers with compatible HPM® polypropylene microfibers to create a uniform three-dimensional reinforcement network inside the concrete matrix. This blended approach:

  • improves post-crack load transfer and slab toughness;

  • reduces both plastic shrinkage and drying shrinkage cracking;

  • enables replacement of secondary welded wire mesh in many slab-on-grade and overlay applications while maintaining excellent surface finish for polished or broom-finished floors.

  • ASTM C1116 — Standard Specification for Fiber-Reinforced Concrete.

  • ASTM D7508 — Standard Specification for Macro Synthetic Fibers for Concrete.

How Blended Macro Synthetic Fibers Improve Concrete Performance

The synergistic combination of macro and micro fibers provides:

  • Distributed reinforcement for early-age and long-term crack control;

  • Post-crack toughness—enabling load redistribution and enhanced fatigue resistance;

  • Improved impact & abrasion resistance for industrial floors;

  • Cleaner surface finishes compared with coarse steel fibers, supporting polished floor systems.

Key Benefits of Using Blended Macro Synthetic Fibers

  • Replaces secondary wire mesh and, in many cases, reduces need for steel fibers.

  • Controls plastic and drying shrinkage cracks.

  • Enhances toughness, flexural and impact resistance.

  • Lightweight, non-corrosive and easier to handle on site.

  • Compatible with polishing and decorative floor finishes.

  • Cost-effective: reduces labor and secondary reinforcement costs.

Applications of Blended Macro Synthetic Fibers in Concrete

Ideal uses:

  • Industrial floors and slabs-on-ground (warehouses, logistics centers)

  • Composite metal deck overlays and structural overlays

  • Precast pipes, tanks, vaults, panels and planks

  • Shotcrete for tunnels, slopes, mining and underground works

  • Bridge decks, ramps, parking decks and highway overlays

  • Mass concrete pours requiring distributed crack control

Usage Guidelines for Macro Fiber Reinforced Concrete

Recommended practice:

  • Dosage: 1.8–4.5 kg/m³ (typical design: 3.0 kg/m³ for slab crack control).

  • Mixing: Add fibers during batching; extend mixing by 30–60s after fiber addition for uniform dispersion.

  • Placement & Finishing: Compatible with standard finishing; avoid over-troweling immediately after placement.

  • Note: HTM® Mono Blend replaces secondary welded mesh but does not replace structural rebar where code or structural design requires it.

FAQ

  • Typical dosage is 1.8–4.5 kg/m³ depending on project requirements.
    A common working dosage is 3.0 kg/m³ for slab-on-ground crack control and toughness improvement.

  • The blended system enhances plastic shrinkage control, drying shrinkage crack reduction, post-crack load transfer, and overall slab toughness.
    Macro fibers provide structural crack control; microfibers reduce early-age microcracking for a more durable concrete matrix.

  • Add fibers during batching with aggregates and extend mixing by 30–60 seconds after fiber addition.
    For ready-mix plants, introduce fibers gradually or in small soluble bags to avoid clumping and achieve uniform dispersion.

  • Ideal applications include:

    • Industrial floors & slabs-on-ground

    • Precast tanks, pipes, vaults, and panels

    • Composite metal decks

    • Shotcrete for tunnels & mining

    • Bridge decks, ramps, overlays

    • Pavement and mass concrete where crack control is critical

  • Yes. It is compatible with standard ready-mix, precast, shotcrete, and mass concrete mixes.
