ASTM C1116 Fiber Reinforced Concrete: What the Standard Means

ASTM C1116 fiber reinforced concrete terminology is often used too loosely in product marketing. ASTM C1116/C1116M is a specification for fiber-reinforced concrete, not a universal certificate issued to every fiber product.

ASTM C1116 Fiber Reinforced Concrete Scope

The specification addresses fiber-reinforced concrete and distinguishes fiber categories. Project teams should review the applicable edition and identify which ordering and acceptance provisions govern their work.

A statement such as “ASTM C1116 compliant” is incomplete unless it identifies what material or concrete requirement was assessed, who assessed it and which supporting document applies.

The Concrete Fibers page connects the general specification context with the available fiber families.

What ASTM C1116 Does Not Replace

The standard reference does not replace product identity, dosage, mixture qualification or performance testing. When flexural performance is required, ASTM C1609/C1609M may be specified separately. Plastic-shrinkage questions require a different method, such as ASTM C1579.

Check the exact product documents on the PIONEER Data Sheets page. For application and design context, review Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Solutions.

Specifications should name the standard edition, concrete requirements, fiber category, dosage basis, required tests and acceptance criteria.

Technical References: ASTM C1116/C1116M-23; ASTM C1609/C1609M; ASTM C1579 where applicable.

Technical Verification Statement: Confirm the applicable ASTM edition and retain evidence supporting any compliance statement before publication.
