To choose micro fibers for concrete, begin with the required function and production process. Do not assume that monofilament polypropylene, fibrillated polypropylene, ultra-fine PP, self-dispersing PP, polyester, and alkali-resistant glass fibers are interchangeable.


Each type has a different material identity, geometry, dispersion behavior, and application boundary.


Choose Micro Fibers for Concrete by Required Funct ion

First define the problem the fiber is expected to address:


Early-age crack-control requirement


Fibrillated network geometry


Fine fiber distribution

 

Dry-mix dispersion


PET material specification


Alkali-resistant glass requirement


Fire-related or other project-specific requirement


If the design requires verified post-crack residual strength or structural reinforcement, a macro synthetic fiber or another engineered system may be more appropriate.


Match Fiber Type to the Application

Monofilament PP fibers are commonly evaluated for early-age crack-control applications in concrete and mortar.


Fibrillated PP fibers open into a network-like form during mixing and should be assessed for dispersion, workability, and the intended application.


Ultra-fine PP fibers may be considered where fine geometry and a high fiber count are desired.


Self-dispersing PP fibers are designed for production systems where rapid and consistent distribution is important.


Polyester fibers may be selected where PET material properties or project specifications are required.


AR glass fiber is not a synthetic polymer fiber. It may appear in the same selection range because it serves specific GFRC and cementitious applications.
