Concrete Fiber Dosage: A Trial-Based Approach

Concrete fiber dosage is not a universal number. It depends on fiber material and geometry, intended function, concrete proportions, construction process, test method and project acceptance criteria.

Establish Concrete Fiber Dosage from the Requirement

Start with the current TDS for the exact product. Confirm whether the supplier’s range applies to early-age crack control, fresh-mixture behavior, toughness, residual performance or another stated function. Do not transfer a micro-synthetic dosage to a macro or steel fiber.

Use the Concrete Fibers selection page to identify the appropriate fiber family before setting trials.


Validate the Complete System

Run a reference mixture and one or more approved trial rates. Record dosing accuracy, addition sequence, mixing time, dispersion, workability, air content where relevant, pumping, placing and finish. Test the specified hardened property separately.

ASTM C1609/C1609M results, when required, apply to the tested fiber-reinforced concrete system. A higher dosage does not automatically produce a proportionally better design result.

The responsible engineer or mix designer should approve the final dosage. Any water or admixture adjustment must remain within the approved mix-design process.
