Concrete Fiber Trial Mix: What to Record

A concrete fiber trial mix should determine whether the exact product and dosage work in the proposed mixture, equipment and construction process. A small batch with undocumented changes provides weak evidence.

Concrete Fiber Trial Mix Preparation

Before batching, define the control mixture, fiber product, dosage, addition sequence, mixing time and acceptance criteria. Use representative materials and calibrate the dosing method.

Record Fresh and Construction Behavior

Document:

batch size and material quantities;

fiber addition and observed dispersion;

mixing time and equipment;

workability and air content where required;

pumping, placing and consolidation;

surface finish and visible fibers;

temperatures, specimens, curing and test ages.

ACI 544.2R reviews fresh-state properties and fiber dispersion. Visual uniformity is useful, but it does not prove the required hardened performance.

If the trial changes water, admixture dosage, aggregates or cementitious materials, record the change and reassess the approved mix. Production acceptance should require repeatable results and approval by the responsible producer, engineer or specifier.
