Micro synthetic fibers are commonly evaluated for early-age crack-control objectives. Macro synthetic and steel fibers may be considered where the slab design requires toughness or post-crack performance. These roles are not interchangeable.

Design and Trial Checks
Document whether the slab is ground-supported, pile-supported, elevated or composite. Confirm loading, subgrade or supports, thickness, joint layout, openings, edges and retained conventional reinforcement.
Where design values are required, use product-specific test data at the proposed dosage and an accepted calculation method. ASTM C1609/C1609M is one method for measuring flexural performance; it does not create a universal design value.
