Aramid Fiber Reinforcement for Asphalt Pavements | PIONEER®
High-Performance Asphalt Fiber for Fiber-Reinforced Asphalt Mixtures
HGM® Aramid is a premium asphalt reinforcement fiber designed for high-performance fiber-reinforced asphalt concrete (FRAC), overlays, municipal roads, industrial pavements, and heavy-duty highways.
What Is Aramid Fiber for Fiber-Reinforced Asphalt Concrete?
HGM® Aramid is an engineered aramid + polyolefin synthetic blend (80/20) developed specifically for asphalt pavements and overlays. The fiber forms a three-dimensional reinforcement matrix inside hot mix asphalt (HMA), warm mix asphalt (WMA), and fiber-modified bituminous mixtures.
Key enhancements include:
-
Improved anti-cracking performance (reflective, thermal, joint cracking)
-
Superior anti-rutting ability under high temperatures & heavy wheel loads
-
Increased fatigue life for long-term durability
-
Better asphalt binder retention & mixture stability

ASTM D8395-2023 – Aramid Fiber for Asphalt Mixtures
-
Industry specifications for fiber-reinforced asphalt concrete (FRAC), fiber-modified mixes, and performance-graded asphalt systems.
How Aramid Fibers Strengthen Asphalt Pavements
HGM® Aramid disperses uniformly in asphalt during drum or batch mixing, forming a reinforcing micro-network that improves mechanical and thermal performance.
Key functional mechanisms:
-
Crack Control: Resists reflective, fatigue, and thermal cracking
-
Rutting Resistance: Adds structural stability at high pavement temperatures
-
Fatigue Life Improvement: Reduces strain, delaying pavement distress
-
Binder Holding Effect: Reduces drain-down and improves asphalt film thickness
