What Is Polyacrylonitrile Fiber for Fiber-Reinforced Concrete?

PIONEER® HPM® PAN is a high-performance polyacrylonitrile (PAN) micro synthetic fiber designed specifically for fiber-reinforced concrete and high-performance concrete (HPC) applications. Engineered with ultra-fine diameter and high tensile strength, these fibers form a dense three-dimensional reinforcement network that effectively controls cracking while enhancing toughness and durability in concrete.

Compared with polypropylene fibers, PAN fibers deliver higher tensile strength and modulus, improved crack resistance during plastic and hardened stages, and superior finishing quality without surface fiber protrusion.

How to Use PAN Fibers in Concrete Mix Designs

Dosage: 0.6–1.8 kg/m³, typically 1.0 kg/m³ depending on project needs.

  1. Length Selection:

  • 6–12 mm for mortar and thin-section applications.

  • 12–18 mm for standard concrete reinforcement.

  2. Mixing: Add fibers with aggregates and cement; extend mixing time to ensure uniform dispersion.

  3. Note: PAN fibers supplement but do not replace structural steel reinforcement; follow standard placement and curing practices for fiber-reinforced concrete.
