Macro synthetic fibers are structural fibers with a diameter of ≥0.3 mm, usually made from polypropylene or a polypropylene–polyethylene blend. When mixed into concrete, they disperse uniformly to help reduce shrinkage cracking, improve structural integrity, and extend service life. Typical applications include industrial floors, pavements, and precast elements.
Macro Synthetic Fiber Reinforced Concrete (MSFRC) is a composite material in which larger structural fibers—such as polypropylene or high-density polyethylene—are uniformly distributed throughout the concrete matrix to enhance its structural performance. These fibers significantly improve toughness and impact resistance, while also inhibiting crack propagation, controlling shrinkage cracks and thermal cracks, and ultimately enhancing durability. MSFRC serves as a lightweight alternative to traditional steel fibers and is widely used in industrial floors, pavements, precast elements, and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Macro synthetic fibers (MSFs) offer benefits over steel fibers and wire welded fabric (WWF) by improving concrete durability and toughness through three-dimensional reinforcement, reducing labor costs by eliminating traditional reinforcement placement, and enhancing sustainability through lighter weight and reduced CO2 emissions. They are also non-corrosive, leading to stain-free surfaces and improved long-term durability, while also providing better impact resistance and flexibility to resist cracking and temperature changes.
